http://www.theozoneman.com/index.php/videos/viewvideo/16/coming-clean-fighting-hospital-infections.html

According to the CDC one in 20 patients will develop a hospital-acquired infection. For decades, it was considered an unavoidable risk, but the team at Lee Memorial Health System is beating the odds.

"We started to see three months without an infection, six months without an infection, a year without an infection in all the units we looked at each other and said 'oh my gosh not only is it possible we have to do this for our patients'," says Dr. Marilyn Kole, System Medical Director for Intensive Care Services for Lee Memorial Health System.

So they launched an initiative to wipe out germs. At the project's core is a practice they call a bundle.

"The bundle is a group of processes that you perform the done separately they may not mean anything, but done together actually produces a great result," says Dr. Kole.

"Each of the procedures that we do in the bundle adds to the effect of the bundle and the preventative effect," says Steve Streed, Director of Hospital Epidemiology for Lee Memorial Health System.

The course of action includes: full body draping, check lists, for all procedures, daily inspections and site cleansing.

The estimate cost nationwide of treating hospital infections is 45-billion dollars a year. The single most effective treatment costs pennies by comparison; sanitary hand gel.

"You've probably seen throughout all of our campuses we have lots and lots of alcohol gel dispensers. That's very satisfying because, five years ago there were some up in the units but now we have them everywhere," says Streed.

"We didn't stop and say let's add one thing at a time and study it and measure it. We said lets do everything we can to stop the infections," says Dr. Kole.

Setting a standard, for other hospitals to follow. The dedication to quality patient care is...infectious.

Multidrug resistant microbes such as acinetobacker baumannii, MRSA, C. diff, and vancomycin resistant enterococcus are found in 50% of infected patients rooms up to 2 months later! Patients with weakened immunity are especially vulnerable. These microbes are found on places that include supply cart handles, floors, infusion pumps, ventilator touch pads, bed rails, and much more.

There is much that can be done to prevent the 1.9 million hospital acquired infections and about 100,000 deaths from them that is not happening. First we could be using copper on surfaces that harbor these infections to prevent most of them from occurring in the first place. We could consider using UVB lights in rooms where people with serious infections have stayed. We should be using lifestyle strategies to boost immunity and strengthen detoxification. When 5% of hospitalized patients who come in without an infection go out with an infection, we're not doing our job to prevent infections very well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_Macapagal-Arroyo
Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (born April 5, 1947) is a Filipino politician who served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010, as the 12th Vice President of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001, and is currently a member of the House of Representatives representing the 2nd District of Pampanga. She was the country's second female president (after Corazón Aquino), and the daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal. She was a former professor of economics at Ateneo De Manila University where Noynoy Aquino was one of her students. She entered government in 1987, serving as assistant secretary and undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry upon the invitation of President Corazón Aquino. After serving as a senator from 1992 to 1998, she was elected to the vice presidency under President Joseph Estrada, despite having run on an opposing ticket. After Estrada was accused of corruption, she resigned her cabinet position as Secretary of Social Welfare and Development and joined the growing opposition to the president, who faced impeachment. Estrada was soon forced from office by the EDSA Revolution of 2001, and Arroyo was sworn into the presidency by Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. on January 20, 2001. She was elected to a full six-year presidential term in the controversial May 2004 Philippine elections, and was sworn in on June 30, 2004. Following her presidency she was elected to the House of Representatives, making her the second Philippine president—after José P. Laurel—to pursue a lower office after their presidency. She is currently residing at La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City. She was born as María Gloria Macaraeg Macapagal to politician Diosdado Macapagal and his wife, Evangelina Macaraeg-Macapagal. She is the sister of Dr. Diosdado 'Boboy' Macapagal, Jr. & Cielo Macapagal-Salgado. She spent the first years of her life in Lubao, Pampanga with her two older siblings from her father's first marriage. At the age of four, she chose to live with her maternal grandmother in Iligan City. She stayed there for three years, then split her time between Mindanao and Manila until the age of 11. She is fluent in English, Tagalog, Spanish and several other Philippine languages, most importantly, Kapampangan, Ilokano, and Cebuano. In 1961, when Arroyo was just 14 years old, her father was elected as president. She moved with her family into Malacañang Palace in Manila. A municipality was named in her honor, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro. She attended Assumption Convent for her elementary and high school education, graduating valedictorian in 1964. Arroyo then studied for two years at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service in Washington, D. C. where she was a classmate of future United States President Bill Clinton and achieved consistent Dean's list status. She then earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Assumption College, graduating magna cum laude in 1968. In 1968, Arroyo married lawyer and businessman Jose Miguel Arroyo of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, whom she had met while still a teenager. They had three children, Juan Miguel (born 1969), Evangelina Lourdes (born 1971) and Diosdado Ignacio José María (born in 1974). She pursued a Master's Degree in Economics at the Ateneo de Manila University (1978) and a Doctorate Degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines (1985). From 1977 to 1987, she held teaching positions in several schools, notably the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University. She became chairperson of the Economics Department at Assumption College. In 1987 she was invited by President Corazón Aquino to join the government as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. She was promoted to Undersecretary two years later. Lake Erie ( /ˈɪri/; French: Lac Érié) is the fourth largest lake (by surface area) of the five Great Lakes in North America, and the thirteenth largest globally. It is the southernmost, shallowest, and smallest by volume of the Great Lakes and therefore also has the shortest average water residence time. It is bounded on the north by the Canadian province of Ontario, on the south by the U. S. states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, and on the west by the state of Michigan. The lake is named after the Erie tribe of Native Americans who lived along its southern shore. The outflow from the lake provides hydroelectric power to Canada and the U. S. as it spins huge turbines at Niagara Falls. Canadian writer Chad Fraser in his book Lake Erie Stories, refers to the region as a 'sun-drenched, nearly tropical retreat'. The novelist and poet Margaret Atwood described Lake Erie with these words:Lake Erie (42. 2° N, 81. 2° W) has a mean elevation of 571 feet (174 m) above sea level. It has a surface area of 9,940 square miles (25,745 km²) with a length of 241 miles (388 km) and breadth of 57 miles (92 km) at its widest points. It is the shallowest of the Great Lakes with an average depth of 62 feet (19 m) and a maximum depth of 210 feet (64 m). For comparison, Lake Superior has an average depth of 483 feet (147 m), a volume of 2,900 cubic miles (12,100 km³) and shoreline of 2,726 miles (4385 km). Because it is the shallowest, it is also the warmest of the Great Lakes, and in 1999 this almost became a problem for two nuclear power plants which require cool lake water to keep their reactors cool. The warm summer of 1999 caused lake temperatures to come close to the 85-degree limit necessary to keep the plants cool. The shallowest section of Lake Erie is the western basin where depths average only 25 to 30 feet; as a result, 'the slightest breeze can kick up lively waves,' according to a New York Times reporter in 2004. The 'waves build very quickly', according to other accounts. Sometimes fierce waves springing up unexpectedly have led to dramatic rescues; in one instance, a Cleveland resident trying to measure the dock near his house became trapped but was rescued by a fire department diver from Avon Lake, Ohio:This area is also known as the 'thunderstorm capital of Canada' with 'breathtaking' lightning displays. Lake Erie is primarily fed by the Detroit River (from Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair) and drains via the Niagara River and Niagara Falls into Lake Ontario. Navigation downstream is provided by the Welland Canal, part of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. Other major contributors to Lake Erie include the Grand River, the Huron River, the Maumee River, the Sandusky River, the Buffalo River, and the Cuyahoga River. Point Pelee National Park, the southernmost point of the Canadian mainland, is located on a peninsula extending into the lake. Several islands are found in the western end of the lake; these belong to Ohio except for Pelee Island and eight neighboring islands, which are part of Ontario. Major cities along the lake include Buffalo, New York; Erie, Pennsylvania; Toledo, Ohio; Port Stanley, Ontario; Monroe, Michigan; Sandusky, Ohio; and Cleveland, Ohio. The drainage basin covers 30,140 square miles (78,000 km2). The lake is also an international boundary between the United States and Canada. The close proximity of both countries as well as the lake's flatness has caused occasional confusion with cell phone billing, since a call may be believed to have been made internationally, depending on the strength of the signal, and billed accordingly. Islands tend to be located in the western side of the lake and total thirty-one in number (13 in Canada, 18 in the U. S. ). The island-village of Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island attracts young crowds who sometimes wear 'red bucket hats' and are prone to 'break off cartwheels in the park' and general merriment. Kelleys Island was depicted by the Chicago Tribune as having charms that wer
